The Q LGBTQ Creative Network Makes A Move This Pride: Launches Non-Profit to Advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ Creatives

The Q LGBTQ Creative Network (The Q) is excited to announce its official launch as a registered Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for stronger representation in the arts industry for 2SLGBTQIA+ creatives. While no stranger to the arts scene, The Q has built upon its critical advocacy work over the past near 5 years by focusing on growing and fostering awareness of the 2SLGBTQIA+ creative community.

By exploring every avenue of the creative space, The Q aims to connect audiences with the vibrant and diverse world of 2SLGBTQIA+ creatives:

“At The Q, we believe that all LGBTQ artists need to be known and supported by the greater 2SLGBTQIA+ community and beyond” says Kenney Fitzpatrick, Q founder. “I’m thrilled to launch as a space where audiences can discover music, art, and media from the world of 2SLGBTQIA+ creatives. The goal is to amplify those voices and experiences while at the same time raising awareness of the unique challenges they face.”

For The Q, everything starts at home. Educating the greater 2SLGBTQIA+ community about who the artists are, the work they are creating, and why supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ art and artists is important and needs to be encouraged, is vital to the growth of the community. Says Fitzpatrick:

“It’s unsettling how many of the general 2SLGBTQIA+ community don’t know who any of the community’s artists are besides those who have received wide spread media attention. That number is small in comparison to the actual number of artists out there creating incredible pieces of work. Music, visual arts, written work, dance, etc. As a community we have the ability to see and hear our experiences told and reflected through the artistry of our creatives. Most of us grew up not having that sort of outlet, so it’s incredibly important to ensure that 2SLGBTQIA+ youth know that they do.”

As a newly registered non-profit, The Q looks forward to creating new opportunities, resources, and programs to both assist artists, as well as educate community and industry, and add it the rapidly growing artist network, OUT LOUD media series (radio show, podcast, and video show), playlist series, and Q32 music chart, among others.

As the saying goes, “If we don’t look after our own, who will.”
