“It was late at night, cold and snowing. Just this pristine, untouched snow in this little park. This was the last time there was really a lot of snow in Boston. I was with some friends at this small frozen-over river or stream, and I decided that it would be a great idea to run across it.
At first, it felt very empowering because I survived. Then, it felt like I’d accomplished something. I’ve definitely had points in my life where I felt very proud of myself for things I’ve accomplished, but never like this. I was in the snow. I was in my second semester at college. I felt so free. I was at this point in my life where I felt untouchable. I felt very powerful and like nothing could stop me. I wanted to channel that feeling into a song.
It’s important to have a good support network. That can be friends. It can be family, or chosen family. Nobody does this alone. Everybody needs people. That’s just who we are.”
