Song Details and Information
Park Bench is like a diary entry from Sasha (they/them/theirs).“I’ve released music that details my experiences as a non-binary person before, but Park Bench feels different somehow. In the past, I’ve written from places of pride and anger, as a way to outwardly and loudly express my identity to those that I felt refused to see me. I’ve had time in the last two years to sit with my thoughts and develop more language for how I see myself; this song is an honest and vulnerable reflection of how far I’ve come, and how much further I have to go until I feel safe and secure in my own skin.”

Flip a coin with your strange hands
Not quite woman, not quite man
It might land somewhere in the middle
Or somewhere out of reach
And if I ever learn my name, I’ll carve it in a Park Bench
And I’ll stare ‘til the letters don’t look like anything

Palmyra brought this song to life in their home in Floyd County, Virginia, which has proven to be a safe place for self-reflection and writing. The song centers around Sasha’s voice, supported by echoing guitar melodies, three part harmonies, and bowed double bass.
