Fredericton was alive with sparkle, pride, and celebration on Saturday, February 7, as the first-ever New Brunswick Drag Awards took over the Fredericton Convention Centre. A full house of near 300 attendees gathered to honour local talent and celebrate the vibrant drag scene that’s been growing steadily across the province.
The event was hosted and organized by Dahlia Dior, one of New Brunswick’s rising drag stars, and produced by Zara Matrix and Yas Company from Halifax, two powerhouses in Atlantic Canada’s drag and performance community. The result? A night that shimmered with professionalism, inclusivity, and unfiltered joy.
From the first spotlight to the final strut, the show delivered nothing short of magic. Performances by Justin TooDeep, Jasper Diamond Dior, Moe Mustacherides, Equi Knox, and ERA had the crowd roaring, while host Dahlia Dior brought the house down with an unforgettable performance that perfectly captured the energy of the evening.
The room radiated glitz, glamour, and community pride. Sequins sparkled under the stage lights, cheers echoed from every corner, and throughout the night, heartfelt praise and admiration poured in for Dahlia Dior’s leadership in bringing this historic event to life.
As the awards wrapped, the celebration was far from over. The night continued with an afterparty at Monarch Nightclub, where the fun, sparkle, and community spirit carried on late into the night. Monarch was also recognized during the evening as Venue of the Year, a well-deserved honour for its ongoing support of the local drag and queer performance scene.
Crowning the night’s biggest honours, Darling Delight took home the title of Drag Queen of the Year, while Moe Mustacherides proudly claimed Drag King of the Year, both receiving thunderous applause from an audience thrilled to see their artistry celebrated.
Attendees left buzzing with excitement—many calling it a landmark moment for drag in New Brunswick. It was clear that this wasn’t just an awards show; it was a celebration of artistry, resilience, and the power of queer creativity to bring people together.
Those lucky enough to be there witnessed a new chapter in New Brunswick’s cultural story unfold, one filled with bold performances, shining stars, and an unapologetic message of inclusion. And for those who missed out? Let’s just say you won’t want to skip next year’s event.
Congratulations to Everyone!
